This week was a big week for well over a billion earthlings: the shrib.com interface is now translated to ten languages.
shrib.com had been localized in earlier versions (see the historic archives at the end of the news page for all the euphoric news about translations over ten years ago!). However, they couldn’t be transferred into the new version that was rolled out in 2020.
Now, finally, the necessary infrastructure to allow separate language files and smart localizations were implemented. Also, the advent of large language models has drastically reduced the complexity of translating sophisticated web code.
So for now, you are welcome to use shrib.com completely localized to the following languages (tap on the language to get to shrib.com in that language!):
Language | First language population | Code |
---|---|---|
English | 380 Million | en |
Hindi | 345 Million | hi |
Spanish | 485 Million | es |
French | 81 Million | fr |
Russian | 147 Million | ru |
Indonesian | 44 Million | id |
German | 75 Million | de |
Turkish | 84 Million | tr |
Tagalog (Filipino) | 29 Million | fil |
Italian | 65 Million | it |
The “first language population” numbers are taken from this Wikipedia page.
Currently, the language is selected automatically based on your browser settings. If you would like to choose a different language, you can visit shrib.com with the URL parameter ?language=[Code]
where [Code]
is replaced with the language code from the table above.
Example: go to https://shrib.com?language=es
to get the Spanish localization.
